Whoopee! The Jug Head Hat

This pattern includes two versions of a sideways knit “whoopee” hat similar to the one worn by Jughead Jones on the popular TV show, Riverdale. The first version has seams at the back edge and at the crown. The second version is seamless and the crown is shaped by short row turns. To make the seamless version you will need to know how to do a provisional cast on and a 3 needle bind off.

Sizes: S (M, L) - to fit teen/child, (woman, man)

Measurements: Circumference: (17, 19 ½, 22 ½)” Length (unfolded):  9 (10, 11)”.

Materials: Approximately 180 (200, 220) yards of sport to dK weight wool, darning needle, crochet hook and scrap yarn for provisional cast on, spare needle for three needle bind off, optional- red button and small rectangular piece of white fabric if you really want your hat to look like Jughead’s.

Dark Grey Sample is size M and was knit with 2 skeins of Cascade 220 Sport in color 8400- Charcoal Grey

Lt Grey Sample is size L and was knit with 2 skeins of Plymouth DK Merino Superwash—1117 Lt Grey

 Gauge: 23 sts and 40 rows = 4” in garter stitch

Needle: US 5 (3.75mm) or size needed to get gauge
