Pebble Bay Cardigan was knit with a blend of cashmere, merino, and silk making for a sweater that is very luxurious indeed. Pebble Bay Cardigan was knit with a blend of cashmere, merino, and silk making for a sweater that is very luxurious indeed. It will quickly become your best friend on those early chilly mornings – so warm and cozy. The simple lines of the cables combined with a hint of lace are a dream to behold and to knit!

 

 

The construction is top-down beginning with the back neck and shoulders which are shaped and worked to underarm. Next the fronts are picked up from the back, shaped and worked down to the underarm. Once there, the remaining body stitches are cast on, the body is joined into one piece and worked down to the lower edge. Sleeve stitches are picked up from the armhole and worked back and forth for the width of the underarm cast on then joined to work in the round. There is a small seam at the underarm. Other than that, the cardigan is entirely seamless.

The cable pattern is provided in both Chart and written formats.

Pebble Bay has a modified drop shoulder – A small amount of the body is cut out at the armholes making for a slightly more fitted look than the standard drop shoulder. Body length is slightly cropped. Sleeves are bracelet length. Body and sleeve length can easily be adjusted if desired.

To fit woman’s size XS (S M, L) (XL, 2XL, 3XL, 4XL).

Bust: 37 ½ (40 ½, 43 ½, 48 ½) (51 ½, 56 ½, 59 ½, 61 ½)” / 95 (103, 110.5, 123) (131, 143.5, 151, 156) cm.

Length: 19 ¾ (20, 20 ¼, 20 ½,) (20 ¾, 21, 21 ½, 21 ¾)” / 50 (51, 51.5, 52) (53, 53.5, 54.5, 55) cm.  Sample shown is size 40 ½”/ 103 cm and has 5 ½”/ 14 cm of positive ease. Suggested ease is 4-8”/ 10-20 cm.  

 

Techniques to know:

Cables, long tail CO, backward loop CO (for buttonholes), working in the round (a small circumference), German Short Rows, increasing and decreasing, binding off (standard method or tubular) and mattress stitch (underarm seam).

Yarn used in Sample:  Cape May Fiber Merino Cashmere Silk Sport (75% super wash merino, 15% cashmere, 10% silk) 245 yds per 100 g skein in color New Leaf.

 

Gauge:

22 sts, 32 rows = 4”/ 10 cm in st st on larger needle.

 

Needles:

US Size 4 (3.5 mm) and 5 (3.75 mm) 32”/ 81 cm or longer circular needles for body.

US Size 4 (3.5 mm) and 5 (3.75 mm) 16”/ 40.5 cm circular and double pointed needles for sleeves (or type of needles you prefer for working a small circumference in the round).

Change needle size if needed to obtain correct gauge.
